My Word for 2015

2015

I wish you a Happy New Year, and I offer you a word, my word for 2015. I was fairly happy with my word for 2014 which was JOY. I think joy had a good run, though I feel like by December I was running out of it. A few disappointments, both personal and professional, getting over being sick for almost two months, and the cold setting in have all contributed to my dampened spirit. All that however has paved the way for my 2015 word Excelsior! And frankly I just made that choice as I started writing.

excelsior

I have loved the word excelsior since I first heard it . Anyone from my home state of New York learns this word fairly early in their vocabulary building life, as it is the state motto. The definition is onward and upward, and that is how I plan to approach 2015. After taking a bit of a break between Christmas and New Year’s Day and maybe a few extra days… I plan to take on the world! I don’t know about you, but I always have a few to do lists in a variety of places from the fridge to inside my very cluttered head. It’s time to do some list collating and to get started tackling all those neglected tasks (or delegating them).

Just the other day I came across the Eisenhower box which I’ve seen hundreds of time in one form or other, and I realized it was just what I need to get my year off to a productive start! So far, the look of this post it is quite a departure from my regular look, very stark and hard-edged. This is not a new look for me or for The Chef’s Last Diet, in fact part of my plan is to get back to the heart of The Chef.

I have really enjoyed the writing I’ve been doing as part of the Yeah Write community, and may continue that, but we’ll see. Having realized I’ve managed to write 300 posts has taken me a bit by surprise; that is a lot of words, a lot of content, and I hope it’s all leading somewhere.

Every year most of us start out, if not with resolutions then at least with hopes, and plans. Ideas of what will be better and different. Thoughts of not making the same old mistakes, maybe making some new ones… for that is how we learn. We have things we want to accomplish, and cross off those endless and persistent to-do lists. Sometimes being a human living in the Western hemisphere can be a bit daunting! A new year, another year, a fresh start, a reset, and here it is. Excelsior!
