Late Again

I try to get each post written the day before it goes out, but here I am, late again. We got home from my sister’s house last night, and though it wasn’t late we were exhausted. The drive was about three hours, and traffic wasn’t bad (I think you’re allowed to say that after you’ve arrived).  Rachel ran a 5K Thursday morning, and took a four mile hike yesterday. I cooked most of Thursday, and barely set foot outside for two days. Neither of us slept well, for two nights, and so we were beat.

We grabbed a quick dinner from the pantry and settled into my bed to watch Dreamgirls.  I had seen it when it came out, but haven’t since then, and Rachel hadn’t ever seen it. It was better than I remembered, and of course I knew it starred Jennifer Hudson, but I forgot about the rest of the great cast the movie has like Beyoncé, Daniel Glover, and Eddie Murphy. The songs tell the story, and move the plot forward well, and take you through the years effectively. If you haven’t seen it in a while it’s worth another watch.

I love musicals. I wish I could afford to see them on Broadway, or at least when they come to Philly, but theater has become prohibitively expensive. Last time we went to NYC we did get tickets at TKTS and saw Avenue Q which we both loved. When I was a kid we’d see shows on Broadway, and go each year to Lincoln Center to see The Nutcracker, my grandmother took us to Radio City to see the annual Christmas Show, and I spent many hours at the Times Square TKTS booth waiting to buy cheap tickets. In college we’d ‘second-act’ shows, sneaking into theaters after intermission, or splurge and get standing room tickets. For now we rely on move musicals to satisfy us.

Last night was great, we both slept late again, and better than the last two nights. Today we’re back to (home)work, and counting the hours until we go back to school and actual work. We’ll make the most of the rest of our weekend, and I’ll get to work on my last two November Yeah Write posts, and try not to be late again.
