In the past I have eschewed New Year’s resolutions in favor of a word for the year, but this year I’m making ten resolutions. Ten is a lot, but many are small, and require only a little discipline and a willingness to make changes. I hope that together they will increase my happiness which of course will make me a better parent, friend, sibling, citizen and writer. These resolutions are my tossed pebble.
Ten is a random number, I came up with it before my resolutions, but it is a good number. There are things I would dearly love to bring into my life, but are not wholly within my power, so those will remain wishes. I resolve to do things I can do myself, and hope that these ten behaviors will invite my wishes to come true. Because as cynical as I am, I still believe in the power of wishes.
TEN RESOLUTIONS FOR 2017:
Daily:
- Drink 2 quarts of water
- Move around (dance, swim, walk, bike) at least 20 minutes
- Write something, even if it’s just a journal entry
- Screen-free dinners
- Meditate
- Eat an apple
For the Year
- De-clutter my house or fall in love (whichever comes first)
- Cook more (and write about it)
- Read 20 books*
- Travel
