Disclaimer: this is not a political post Although for some people Inauguration Day was a fine one, for me it was stressful. If you know me at all you’re aware that I deal with stress by cooking, yes, eating too, but cooking is what soothes me far better than eating. When I cook or bake […]

Peggy Gilbey McMackin - This looks delicious Nancy. I’ve never tried Jiffy Corn Bread Mix but reading on caused me to remember the box from when I was a kid. This looks like a terrific dish for putting together a meal even last minute with lots of healthy possibilities in the mix. Nice use of veg and spice. Have a good week.ReplyCancel

nrlowell@comcast.net - Hi Peggy, it was surprisingly tasty! Jiffy is pretty versatile I use it for all kinds of things.

I was planning my first ever New Year’s eve party to ring in 1982 and needed the perfect party dress. A dress that would make me feel pretty, grown up and like the perfect hostess.  I didn’t know what I was looking for when I set off shopping, but as soon as I saw it […]

Melony - Aww, Nancy. I wish you could find the photo. I imagine you were quite adorable in your little black velvet dress. I think we have all found that perfect article of clothing that just defines you and fits you perfectly. <3ReplyCancel

nrlowell@comcast.net - Melony, me too. Sometimes I find old photos of myself and wonder why I found myself so unattractive then. I’m always surprised.

Ellen - I love the build up to the line where you turn from a short, chubby but cute girl to freaking Mary Tyler Moore!

I’ve been known to hold on to those elusive kinds of dresses well past their shelf date in hopes of finding that transformation once again. Alas.ReplyCancel

Danielle - What a lovely picture you’ve painted of yourself in your black velvet dress. I hope you find your photo one day. Until then, these words you’ve written are beautiful enough to hold the memory.ReplyCancel

LISA SHAW - You know, this makes me go “I wonder what happened to take her from feeling so good in a garment to not wearing those garments anymore.” I mean, I’m sure, like mine would be, that’s a long story. I also want to know what happened to the dress, the photo of the dress, the girl who you see looking back at you if the lighting is dim. So many questions… Really, though the first time I read it I thought, yes, this is how I feel and I wish I didn’t.ReplyCancel

Looking for a meatless Monday recipe? Well today I’ve got a two for one deal. I’m often surprised by which of my posts on Instagram, FB, or Twitter get the most requests for recipes please. I don’t mean the most likes, but specifically asking for a recipe. Two such items from the last weeks are […]

Peggy Gilbey McMackin - Looks delicious Nancy! I save broccoli stalks and freeze them for use in either broccoli and cheese soup, or of course, for vegetable stock. Nice share. Have a wonderful week ahead!ReplyCancel

I don’t think I am brave, though people tell me I am. Too often I fail to act. When gripped with fear; I balk. My doing something you are afraid of doesn’t make me brave. Doing something I’m afraid of does, and every time I do it takes every ounce of strength I have. Bravery […]

Melony Boseley - I think the word brave does get thrown around a lot and has been diminished by its overuse. But those things you did, leaving a relationship and a job and a husband, those aren’t rash decisions. In the end they benefitted to your wellbeing, despite acknowledging it. And that makes you brave. XoxReplyCancel

Danielle Dayney - Thinking out decisions and weighing all options is showing more bravery than acting on instinct. You are definitely brave for that. Me, I act on emotions only, leading with my heart instead of my mind. Sometimes that gets me in trouble…ReplyCancel

Winter risotto is just what you need on a cold winter night. This one takes a few steps, but there’s no reason you couldn’t do all the prep over the weekend and toss it together on Wednesday night. I had a nice big butternut squash a friend gave me, and it was just […]

Peggy Gilbey McMackin - This looks and sounds so delicious Nancy and a dish I would like to try. It is the craziest thing about risotto with me, particularly given I’m always cooking from throughout the world, but risotto may be the only dish that whenever I make it, including as a Christmas Eve buffet dish it is always the same… wild mushroom and saffron. I include dried porcini with the soaking liquid, green peas, and parsley at the end.I just love it. Perhaps you’ve expanded my world!ReplyCancel
