Nancy Lowell has spent a lifetime loving, eating, cooking, learning and reading about food. She has owned a small restaurant in Delaware County, New York, a catering business in New York City, worked for fifteen years for Whole Foods Market, and served Breakfast at Tiffany’s during her time working in corporate dining.
Browning creates flavor, there is no denying it. Most slow cooker recipes call for browning meat before putting it into the pot, but I wanted to know if browning makes a difference. I do not always approach things in the most scientific manner, but I gave it a good try with this experiment. To do […]
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, but now he lives at my house. I am the female Humpty Dumpty. Each time I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror that’s who I see. Almost one year ago I had abdominal surgery from which I have recovered well, save for the two hernias that now protrude […]
Peggy Gilbey McMackin-Well, it seems your elevated fashion sense should work lovely with your very pretty face Nancy. Having a signal operation years back including donor bone from base of brain half down the spinal cord, a scar on the neck indeed caused a unique disturbance leaving the shower pressure to clean it with some subconscious fear on touching it. My next door neighbor just had a hernia operation anticipating recovery and discomfort of which he was up and at me in literally few days. I just love to prepare soups and foods for family and friends in recovery. You have my cell. ❤️❌⭕️ReplyCancel

Danielle-None of us are perfect, right? As we get older these imperfections become more pronounced and we learn to deal with it or stop caring so much what others think. We only have so much time here, so it’s best to enjoy it rather than fretting over ourselves so much.ReplyCancel

nrlowell@comcast.net -I think back to how I felt about myself, my body etc. when I was in my thirties… This is a lesson we learn and relearn over the duration of our lives. At least I do.ReplyCancel

Everyone is looking for recipes for dinner in under thirty minutes. I know when I get home speed is paramount, and impacts my mood for the evening. Planning is great, but if you’re like me you don’t do enough of it. Many of my quick, on the table in less than thirty minute meals are […]

This year is the first I can remember that we did not take a summer vacation. We often make a trip to Boulder to see one of my dearest friends, and last year we made our epic (at least to us) Pennsylvania Road Trip. We did make it to the beach for one day last […]
Peggy Gilbey McMackin-Happy you had a good time Nancy and a well deserved though short break. Enjoy your blog-off week too, see you when you return!ReplyCancel
You know those Szechuan green beans you get at Whole Foods Market, or at a Chinese Restaurant? They’re wrinkly and soft, but not overcooked. They’re so good you could eat them all day, every day, but you can’t seem to make them at home. Here is why; they’re blanched in the deep fryer. Yep, they […]
Arlett (Chasing Joy) - What a great experiment. I don’t usually brown my meat or veggies before using the crock pot. Now I might.
