On Saturday I posed a question on my Facebook page: “What is your favorite cheese?” To my surprise, I was inundated with replies, not surprisingly there were many more nominees than there were nominators. I too have a hard time choosing just one, and as I read each reply, found myself saying “Oh, yes, I […]

Adobo chicken comes in two varieties, there is Mexican Adobo chicken, which sounds really good, but is another post, and Filipino Adobo chicken which is so easy and so wonderful. The first time I made it I was heading to a July fourth picnic and I saw this recipe for Adobo Cornish hens in Gourmet Magazine, […]

In Praise of Thighs - Chefs Last Diet - […] you read this blog on a regular basis, you know that many of my chicken recipes are made with chicken thighs,  including buttermilk fried chicken. Now I have a super simple, super delicious method […]ReplyCancel

Many years ago I was out for dinner with a friend, at a diner of all places, and the minute we sat down she fairly collapsed in on herself, and looked up at me and said “I need a drink”! OK, I don’t judge, have a drink, we could have gone to a bar instead […]

Jhanis - Play-dates where moms drank wine? That is crazy. Where do I sign up? LOL Kidding. I never take my kids anywhere where I know liquor will be served and if we do, we don’t drink. And my husband and I rarely drink at home, we rarely drink these days. Sad life. So when we do, I guzzle up more than I should. 🙁ReplyCancel

nrlowell@comcast.net - Jhanis, I know, shocking. I will have a glass of wine even if my daughter is around, it just doesn’t happen very often. Drinking is not part of our ‘family culture’.ReplyCancel

Jenny - I’ve been to those play dates and they are troubling to say the least. I usually say I need a drink on Fridays and I have one. But I could easily do with out.ReplyCancel

nrlowell@comcast.net - I’ve never been to one, and now my daughter has moved from play dates to dates… maybe now I do need a drink!ReplyCancel

A lot of the cooking I do is based on what I have on hand, and not on a recipe, and sometimes I have a good idea, and sometimes things don’t work out at all. I have a friend who confided in me that her belief is that anything she likes will go well with […]

nrlowell@comcast.net - Yes, thanks. It was really good, and better than the less subtle flavor of bacon.ReplyCancel

Jennifer Steck - I love a mixture of flavors and textures, so adding those that compliment each other makes sense. I just saw a chocolate donut with bacon on it. That’s one combination that doesn’t appeal to me in the least. Now I’m hungry for pasta. 🙂ReplyCancel

Farin Vazquez - We halve the brussel sprouts then bake them… but now you’ve convinced me to mix them with some bacon. Thanks!ReplyCancel

Claudia Schmidt - This looks delicious. I don’t eat meat, how do you think it would be without the pancetta?ReplyCancel

      nrlowell@comcast.net - Claudia,
I think it would be just fine! You might want to add something smokey, like smoked paprika, or even some smoked almonds,ReplyCancel

Once upon a time there lived  a king with three daughters. He asked each of his his daughters to tell him how much they loved him. The eldest said “Father, I love you more than the sun and the moon.” And the king was happy. The second daughter said “Father, I love  you more than […]

Sarah Spath - Great post, Nancy. I love the folktale connection. It’s also worth noting that the word “salt” shares a root with “salary.” It was a such a valuable commodity in the Roman empire that there was a time when soldiers would be paid in salt. Love, money, salt: what a combination!ReplyCancel
