Stuffed cabbage is one of my childhood favorites. My mom made hers with a secret ingredient; ginger snaps. I found the recipe in a spiral bound cookbook that was put out by the Nassau Community Temple Sisterhood group cookbook. The book is probably from the 1960’s, but I can’t be sure because the cover (as […]

Peggy Gilbey McMackin - This looks really interesting Nancy. I love stuffed cabbage though I only prepare them around once a year. What a unique use of ginger snaps,I would love to experience the flavor on how they break down in the combination. Sometimes I’m regretful I didn’t save some old local flavor community cookbooks,I didn’t realize at the time… though I recently get one from my Aunt Betty which I enjoy. Thanks for sharing this delightful find! Have a great week.ReplyCancel

Dear Melania, I’m pretty sure the last week has been pretty tough on you, and I thought I‘d write and say I know what you’re going through. I spent ten years living with a narcissist, and they are never worse than when they feel backed up against a wall. I imagine as Donald’s wife he […]

Melony Boseley - That is some powerful writing, Nancy. It’s so easy to discount her as just a pretty face, but she must hurt an awful lot being married to a man like him. I hope she is as far from the maddening crowd as she can get.ReplyCancel

When it comes to my slow cooker I have been a slow learner. Last week I did an experiment and found it was worth the time (and extra mess) to brown the meat before cooking. This weekend while shopping for five things from Costco (and returning with about twice that) I saw boneless pork chops […]

I do not have a dog, and if I did, I assure you I would not have a bumper sticker that read My Dog is a Republican. My dog wouldn’t be a Republican. My dog would be an independent, or perhaps a Objectivist.  I have unaffiliated cats. The other day as I was sitting in traffic […]

I love going food shopping, I always have. When I travel I love to wander through food markets, small shops, and large grocery stores. This is something I’ve done my entire life. As a kid, then later as a college student I’d prowl the basement supermarkets on Canal Street in NYC’ s Chinatown. A trip […]
