Road trip day two (Wednesday) began with one of us (no names) sleeping until almost 9:30 while the other one got up, took a shower and went to the breakfast room and worked for two hours. The Holiday Inn Express where we stayed offered a fairly extensive breakfast, but the star of the morning show […]

Peggy Gilbey McMackin - Yesterday I wasn’t much into brunch, today, well I admit, I’m not into breakfast, especially pancakes either. Yikes, lol. But it seems as if you and Rachel are enjoying a beautiful road trip seeing the view of Pennsylvania. Looking forward to seeing your surprise for tomorrow! Have fun!ReplyCancel

nrlowell@comcast.net - Peggy, we’re having a fun and relaxing trip. Time for sleeping late, naps, reading and hanging out. Today we’re headed somewhere new! See you tomorrow.ReplyCancel

Day one of our Pennsylvania road trip is coming to a close and it was a good day. Not so bright and early Tuesday we started at Knead Bagels in Philadelphia, because you have to have breakfast out when you start a trip, even if that means a crappy meal at McDonald’s in the airport, […]

Peggy Gilbey McMackin - Hi Nancy, good to see you and Rachel had a nice day. Not the fan of the all you can eat buffets, finding the whole concept unappetizing. Looks like it was part of the fun experience. Wishing you a pleasant Day 2.ReplyCancel

Jessica H. - I know which area of PA you visited because I’ve been there many times! I love the Bird-in-Hand market and hope you get to visit it again. I went to one of the buffets out there. It was good, but I definitely prefer some of the restaurants. You can definitely fill up fast! Have a great Day 2!ReplyCancel

Rachel and I are hitting the road this week, and we’ll be sending you daily greetings from Pennsylvania! As we sat down to plan our itinerary I was reminded how huge Pennsylvania is, and that we were only going to be able to see a fraction of it. I’m used to living in a large state, New York […]

I have nothing against pecan, pumpkin or apple pie, but summer pie is the pie I love best. Soft stone fruit and berries are sweet and luscious and extra good baked in a buttery crust. I can’t say I have a favorite one, in fact I like to mix it up and toss some blueberries […]

Tony Lovell - I’ve not had ginger a lot–it’s pungent and spicy, and I just haven’t used it, personally–but you make Ginger Peach Pie sound so delicious that I seriously want to try it now!

If I had to pick a pie to have in the summer, it would definitely have to be a Strawberry-Cherry Pie! I’m not talking canned fruit, either. I like a deep, dark cherry (usually Bing variety), chopped up with chopped fresh strawberry, and then I sugar-set them in the fridge for a day or two. Then, I cook them down in a sauce pan with just a slight drop of vanilla (pure, not imitation, and that’s only because I’ve never used actual beans), and then pop it into a pie and bake. A scoop of vanilla bean ice cream is so amazing on top of this! And that’s just a summer pie! If you want to discuss pies in the fall and winter, well–I’ve got some of those, too!ReplyCancel

nrlowell@comcast.net - Tony, do you use a thickener for your pies? I’m partial to instant tapioca, it never gets gummy as cornstarch and flour sometimes do. I love cherry pie, but I am too lazy to pit cherries, so I use frozen ones 🙂ReplyCancel

Travel and food, especially new food have always been intertwined for me. When I embarked on a yoga retreat to Bali I was excited about  eating Indonesian food, though I wasn’t quite sure what that would be. The only Indonesian food I’d heard of was rijstaffel, which is really Dutch. Before the trip, as part of […]
