I wish you a happy Thanksgiving, and offer some random Thanksgiving thoughts. This week the New York Times ran a great piece on Thanksgiving food in all 50 states.  There are enough recipes in this one article to get you through the coming winter, though there are many I think I’ll skip, either due to […]

From my bedroom window I see the town blanketed with a deep, fresh snow and I can’t imagine how I’m going to get my three-cylinder Geo Metro out of my steep driveway. As I float awake I remember I left the car parked on the street, so all I have to do is dig it […]

During the holidays, in addition to cooking a big meal, we often need to provide a breakfast for the morning after. I often find that after I have a big meal as on Thanksgiving when I swear I won’t want to eat for days, I wake ravenous! Breakfast casseroles are a great remedy for that […]

I am not a fan of Black Friday shopping! The last thing I want to do the day after Thanksgiving is shop! As far as I’m concerned Friday is the best day of the entire Thanksgiving weekend, especially if I can spend it at home. I love Thanksgiving; it has always been my favorite holiday. […]

Peggy Gilbey McMackin - Happy Thanksgiving Nancy! Wishing you a wonderful holiday, and a Friday following. I’m in your camp- no shopping on Black Friday, and this used to be a day I traditionally began to put up the Christmas decorations and played Christmas music all day. Now it varies and we often attend some event either in town or around the region. Enjoy your turkey, oh, and, hope your true love is out there just waiting to meet you!ReplyCancel

nrlowell@comcast.net - Peggy, thanks for another warm and wonderful comment! Though I don’t celebrate Christmas (officially) I love the music, and listen to it all month, singing very loud!ReplyCancel

Rachel - This is so sweet, I love reading stories of people’s happy memories! I do not like shopping on black Friday either! It’s just too stressful and busy, I like to take my time shopping and I have found there are just as many good deals after anyways!ReplyCancel

I have not come close to living the life I pictured. As kids all of us play at creating a vision of the life we’ll live as adults. Mine was fairly specific and elaborate.  My perfect husband, tall, tanned, muscular (my mom said I spent too much time thinking about the life guards teaching me […]

Liz - I have also found myself far from the life I imagined and planned for myself. Like you, I am happy with myself & love the people in my life, but still feel the absence of what I want as an ache. But I do not think you have wasted the years because as you say, you like who you have become. You could not have become the you that you are today, without taking the path you took.

When it comes to your happiness, be greedy! the way I see it, life will pile sadness, heartache, and suffering on our plates whether we like it or not. May you have the opportunity to take as many helpings of happiness as you can grab. I’ll be right there with you yelling, “Damn right we deserve this – all this and more!”ReplyCancel

Suheiry Feliciano - Well, Liz put it way better than I ever could have. It’s wonderful that you are happy with who you’ve become. I think knowing who we are and what our priorities are makes it easier for us to identify the things we truly want out of life. It may also give us the clarity to know what is worth pursuing and how to go about it. I say, be patient but diligent and you’ll finally get the life you deserve. Best wishes!ReplyCancel

Shailaja/ The Moving Quill - This is so beautifully said. I understand what you mean by saying you want more. More happiness, more love, more joy. Isn’t that what it means to be human? More power to you and I hope you find what you’re looking for.ReplyCancel
